I recently attended the British Society of Ecological Medicine where some international scientists presented their research and concerns around the safety of EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) and 5G in particular.
I thought I would share with you some practical suggestions to reduce your exposure to unnecessary EMFs. Particularly those who are already ill, young children and the elderly are more at risk from cell damage due EMFs. The WHO (World Health Organisation) has classified EMFs as a possible carcinogen. 89% of studies show that EMFs cause oxidative stress i.e inflammation.
So what simple, practical things can you do to reduce your risk?
Smartphones:
Use the speakerphone function or an air tube headset keeping the handset 40-50cm from your body
After dialling a number hold the phone away from your body until the call has been connected - this is the time when the maximum transmission power is being used
Do not carry your phone on your body whilst it is switched on as, unless you have adjusted your phone settings, it is constantly transmitting and receiving data which is EMFs
Turn off bluetooth and roaming data when you are not using it
Do not charge or sleep with your phone beside the bed at night, switch it off or put it in airplane mode
Do not use wireless charging as this creates a strong magnetic field close to the phone
Turn off automatic location services for all but essential phone apps.
Minimise the number of apps on your phone as each app receives and transmits information.
So the more data coming and going from your phone and the closer it is to your body the higher your exposure to EMFs is likely to be.
At home:
Use a wired connection for landlines and internet
Set a timer to switch off the wifi router overnight
For longer phone calls divert calls from your mobile to a wired landline
Don't stand next to the microwave when cooking with it
More information on the health effects of EMFs and the guidelines can be found in the EUROPAEM EMF guideline 2016.
